Aims and Scope – International Journal of Graphic Design (IJGD)

International Journal of Graphic Design (IJGD) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the advancement of scholarly research and professional practice in visual communication design. Published twice a year (May and November) by the National Research and Innovation Center, Institute for Research and Community Service, Universitas Sains dan Teknologi Komputer (STEKOM University), Semarang, Indonesia. IJGD offers a platform for dialogue between academia and industry.

The journal welcomes original research articles, design case studies, review articles, and conceptual papers. Areas of interest include, including the following areas:

  • Graphic Design & Visual Communication:
    Typography, branding, print and digital media, data visualization, visual semiotics, and design history.

  • Digital Media & Emerging Technologies:
    AI in design, VR/AR, generative design, UX/UI, motion graphics, and interactive storytelling.

  • Design Theory, Ethics & Cultural Discourse:
    Design’s role in society, ethical design, visual culture, sustainability, and inclusive practices.

  • Design Education & Industry Practice:
    Design pedagogy, curriculum development, creative workflows, and innovation in the design profession.

  • Interaction Design & User Experience:
    Human-computer interaction, usability testing, gamification, and immersive experience design.

  • Visual Persuasion in Advertising & Marketing:
    Campaign design, transmedia storytelling, and social media engagement.

  • Experimental & Speculative Design:
    Critical and hybrid design approaches, computational aesthetics, and interdisciplinary explorations.

  • Cultural Heritage & Preservation:
    Visual documentation of local/indigenous culture, digital archiving, and heritage design.

  • Sustainable & Environmental Communication Design:
    Circular design, eco-conscious practices, and climate communication strategies.

 

Submission Guidelines

IJGD accepts manuscripts in English (Download the Manuscript Template Preparation HERE). All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure scholarly integrity and relevance to the field. Manuscripts should be original and adhere to the journal’s formatting guidelines.
